Girls On The Run, arrived in Idaho in 1999 as a single brochure, that was filled with a lot of promises. It was said that we could change girls lives for the better through a very special running program for girls in the 3rd - 5th grade. As Event Directors at the Idaho Women's Fitness Celebration (www.celebrateall.org) we were excited to learn more. Karen Sander, Jeannette Risch and Lorene Oates sat down and made the plan.

Girls on the Run seemed like a natural fit for what we were already doing, inspiring women to lead healthy lives. Jeannette was selected to lead the program, so we got behind her to set it up in the community, and she worked tirelessly to recruit coaches, volunteers, schools and sponsors. Behind the scenes Karen and Lorene worked on the administration, marketing and funding resources for the program.

We invited GOTR founder Molly Barker to the Celebration in 2000. She came out to see what we were up to and trained us to be Girls on the Run Coaches. Jeannette became our official Program Director and we were on our way. We knew we had something special to share with the community!

Along the way, we have assisted Girls On The Run - Wood River to establish their Council.

In 2001, Jeannette, Lorene and Karen formed Girls on the Run - Idaho and our official non-profit was born.

GOTR programs are now in many locations throughout the Treasure Valley and as an organization we participate in several area events like the Mad Hatter 5K water station, the East Junior High Hornet Run, The St. Luke's Women's Fitness Celebration and the City Of Trees Kids Run.

In 2006, Molly Barker joined us again as the featured guest at the St. Luke's Women's Fitness Celebration.

Today we are so happy to be able to continue to share this amazing program with the young girls of our communities and their families. We are continously grateful to our incredible group of volunteer coaches who dedicate so many hours to making the experience of each girl a memorable one. It is not always possible to know where and when we can make a life changing experience for a girl, but we sure feel that we are sitting in a great spot to do just that. We see their smiles and we hear from the parents. There has never been a better time to get involved with Girls On The Run than now. Thank you for your support!

Volunteers are needed to help set-up and supervise are bi-annual 5K run at the end of each session. Volunteers are needed to coach the program, twice a week, for a ten week session.
